Gemini de Mille was born to Laura de Mille, a HYDRA operative, and an unknown father sometime in the late 70's. Her mother never told her daughter about her life in HYDRA, with Gemini growing up in an elite boarding school in Long Island, New York. When she turned 14 Laura was killed on a mission for HYDRA by a SHIELD operative and in her grief Gemini's latent metahuman gift activated and her body melted into protoplasmic goo.
The traumatised Gemini was found by a HYDRA team sent to 'clean' Laura's home and which took the oozing mass back to a lab for further study. Gradually Gemini learned to control her new shape and after some years was able to retake a human form, upon which HYDRA realised they had the perfect assassin in their ranks. She spent the rest of the 90's training, after which she started a career as a HYDRA operative, sneaking into the most secure facilities, impersonating politicians, sabotaging governments, whatever was required.
Ex-Hydra sub-canon
After being assigned to kill a family, something in Gemini snapped and she fled HYDRA, hiding out under a variety of aliases until finally guilt drove her to the Avengers, joining as a trainee (before the events of Civil War), where she has yet to be fully accepted.
Star Wars
Gemini is a Changeling Bounty Hunter and spy. She works for whoever will pay the highest price, Empire, Rebellion? It doesn't matter to her providing she gets paid.
Witcher
Gemini was dragged into the Witcher world at the time of the Convergence of the Spheres. At first she was pretty angry about this and went on vicious murder sprees. But as the centuries have passed she's mellowed and feeling guilty for past crimes she wanders the continent in various guises doing good deeds. Technically she's a monster, but won't harm anyone unless they deserve it. Likely owes Geralt a favour.
