Other Characters Currently In-Game: N/A
Character Name: Gemini de Mille
Series: DC Comics (New Earth)
Age: 29
From When?: About a year after the events of Infinite Crisis
Inmate Justification: Gemini is an assassin, spy and terrorist. She’s a member of the Brotherhood of Evil, which just about speaks for itself. There is a lot for her to atone for.
Arrival: She agreed to come to the Barge to avoid dying forever.
Abilities/Powers:
Gemini is able to stretch any part of her body at several times the speed of a human thought over distances of hundreds of feet. Applications include squeezing through tiny spaces, elongating after the fastest opponents and passively rebounding most kinetic attacks directed against her. Gemini's elastic cell structure grants her considerable superhuman strength.
Shapeshifting:
You name it, Gemini can become it. She is capable of changing her shape to resemble just about any human, animal, object or liquid that she wishes, increasing or decreasing her mass as required, while imitating voices or a wide range of sounds flawlessly. Whilst she can copy the look of something she is unable to copy any non-physical functions, thus while she can look like a tiger she would not gain any of a tiger's instincts or senses. She can, with effort, split herself into multiple forms, such as a flock of birds, a swarm of flies or multiple people, although this is extremely taxing on her concentration. In whatever shape she takes her scent does not change, being subtly rubbery, a clear tell to those with enhanced senses.
Amorphous Body:
Whilst Gemini might appear outwardly human, her body is in fact composed of a protoplasm with the consistency of soft blue rubber. Consequently she may be stabbed, shot, or even cut into a thousand pieces and suffer no permanent damage or indeed pain unless set on fire. Likewise she does not eat, sleep, drink or get tired and has to fake most functions associated with the human body, such as sweating.
Because her vision is not based on actual human eyes Gemini's eyesight is much more acute than the human norm. She can telescope her vision to read small print from hundreds of metres away and see perfectly in the dark. Her hearing is similarly acute. Conversely her senses of smell and taste are virtually non-existent.
Her Achilles heel is extreme temperatures; above 356F she will start to soften and at 850F she will melt entirely into a helpless puddle. At -22F she will start to become brittle and unable to stretch or change shape, seizing up entirely at -94F.
To aid in her shapeshifting Gemini has an eidetic memory, remembering every moment of her life since her powers manifested with perfect clarity.
Telepathic Resistance:
Because Gemini doesn't have a physical brain she is extremely resistant to all forms of telepathy. Anyone trying to read her mind will encounter some surface thoughts but experience a painful psychic feedback that will discourage them from poking around. Blunt force psychic attacks will work on Gemini, but she tends to shake the effects off fairly rapidly.
On the Barge:
Given how dangerous her powers are, the Admiral has placed a block on them, making it impossible for Gemini to stretch or change shape. Her body remains rubbery protoplasm, and therefore she doesn’t have the need to eat, rest or sleep, but other benefits such as her enhanced strength and flexibility have been reduced to a peak human level, enough to give her an edge in defense, but not offense.
Inmate Information:
Normal childhood, but with an absentee supervillain mother.
On the night of her mother’s funeral she had a mental breakdown, which turned into a physical breakdown as her body melted into protoplasmic goo.
Was found by her mother’s criminal associates, and spent the next year learning how to retake human form and control her powers.
Still traumatised, but turned that trauma into anger. Fears she has lost her humanity and takes out her trauma and pain on others by becoming an assassin and spy.
A cold, cruel killer, Gemini took an almost off-hand approach to murder, viewing its undertaking with a frighteningly casual comfort.
Took part in dropping Chemo (toxic sludge monster) on the city of Bludhaven, killing hundreds of thousands.
Path to Redemption:
At first Gemini will be sulky and grudgingly follow the rules on the Barge, although she might well be quite provocative at times, as she’s used to doing as she likes when she likes. A light-touch warden would be best, as she’s likely to react aggressively to being moralised at and likes to actively buck authority. She will however be compliant to a degree with her Warden and the Barge rules, as she is very afraid of permanent death.
To begin her path, firstly Gemini needs to get past her own selfishness and begin to care about other people. It helps that she’s very loyal to her friends, but it’s going to take a bit to get her thinking of her shipmates as friends.
Letting go of her anger will be another big step. Her whole adult life has been centred around the need for revenge, and moving past that will help her see how misguided she’s been. Making her respect a warden would also help, as she’s more inclined to take instruction from people she looks up to.
Getting romantically attached to someone will help. If someone comes to care for her and she for them then she’ll want to be seen as worthy of being loved.
History:
Gemini de Mille was born to an unknown father and the supervillain Laura de Mille aka Madame Rouge, a member of the notorious Brotherhood of Evil. To keep her daughter away from her criminal life, Rouge sent Gemini to be raised in America, making sure only to visit when her schizophrenic ‘good side’ was dominant. Gemini therefore had a happy childhood, growing up without a care with a mother that loved her…right up until her mother was killed by a vigilante as she attempted to murder an entire team of superheroes.
The words 'supervillain' and 'criminal' didn’t mean much to the young teenage girl who had just lost her only family. Alone and wracked by grief, Gemini’s metahuman gene activated, literally liquefying the terrified girl, screaming even as her mouth and throat melted into shapeless goo. Perhaps she might have remained like that, slowly succumbing to insanity had she not been found by the worst people imaginable.
Madame Rouge’s former associates in the Brotherhood of Evil found Gemini at her mother’s house, and slowly, painstakingly began to teach her how to retake human form. It took the better part of a decade for Gemini to learn to appear human again, and in the meantime she grew increasingly consumed with bitterness and the desire for revenge, hating that the media called her mother's killer a hero despite him being a murderer.
So Gemini became the Brotherhood’s assassin, a weapon every bit as dangerous as her mother if not more so. Murder, extortion, inflicting pain, all became second nature to her as she slowly built up contacts and plotted her revenge, attempting to discredit and then murder Beast Boy, her mother's killer and failing.
Prevented by the Brotherhood from pursuing further personal vendettas, Gemini began to do more independent work, acting as spy and assassin for whoever paid the highest price. Ruthless and brutal her services were in high demand, committing murder or whatever crime was required with a brazen and remorseless efficiency. Until one day her crimes caught up with her.
